Astronomer known for improvements to the astrolabe and for his correspondence with al-Biruni, in which he proposed that the Earth rotates around its axis. He worked in Shiraz and in his native Sistan, but his patron, 'Adud al-Dawla, was an emir of the Buyid dynasty and prince of Balkh.
