Education

Education was of paramount importance in societies defined by a swift conversion to a religion which emphasized literacy and theological inquiry. Both mosques and madrasas, dedicated religious schools, were essentially designed as instruments of education. All education was in some sense religious education, as studies of other arts and sciences were made within Islam's spiritual and cosmological context.
