"Art is something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings." (Merriam Webster definition).
Central Asian art in the Middle Ages reflected the region's position as a cultural crossroads. Many centuries of both trade and conquest left their mark on the skills and aesthetics of its artists and craftspeople. The multiethnic nature of many cities also created conditions for various influences to be juxtaposed, creating distinctive new regional styles. In addition to the dominant influence of Islamic art, influences from Greek, Persian, Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures of the steppe can readily be seen in Central Asian art, craft objects and architectural ornamentation.
